The endless search for true ADV equipment is not for the faint of heart. For those who have searched you understand my pain. However, every once in a while I Forrest Gump my way into making a truly great purchase! Coming in at just under $150 USD its true that my expectations of this bag were high and as it turns out the “incase Sling Bag” has everything I’m looking for in an ADV camera bag and MORE! This bag will comfortably go the extra mile with you on foot, on a motorcycle or just out in the field.
Most of us understand that getting “that shot” means lugging around stuff! Well, this bag is designed to carry more items you need in the same space as a regular camera bag. They did this by making the interior of the bag modular so you can customize its interior shapes to fit your specific needs. One of my favorite features of this bag is the zip down back that exposes the contents of the main storage area. This makes loading the bag a breeze. Of course in true sling bag fashion the camera is accessible from the side as well.
I carry a Canon 5D Mark iii and for those who didn’t know, this camera is a BEAST. The camera body alone is over 2 lbs (950 g). This necessitates a satchel that will comfortable carry the load all day every
day. The “incase Sling Bag” provides the comfort you need with an extra large padded and adjustable strap that also has a quick release buckle. Fully loaded my bag comes in just under 15 lbs (approx 7 kilos) and this is the FIRST sling bag I have ever worn that doesn’t give me ANY discomfort throughout the day.
A rugged exterior made of 1680D ballistic nylon with 600D poly non PVC (obtained from the incase website) provides the carrier with added protection to the bags contents. Although the zippers are not waterproof they are covered to allow some protection from rain and dust. When I’m out riding off road the last thing I would like to do when I pull over for a picture is to deal with the added hassle of a rain cover. There are also many adjustable clips as well as other strapping loops to secure items to the exterior of the bag. I like to carry a large selfie pole at night using it as a mono pod for low light shots.
The designers of this bag put a lot of forethought into what the user would be carrying. Going as far as to make specialized compartments such as waterproof storage with SD card slots, map pouch and small waterproof zip compartments not to mention net pockets galore. All of this without a bulky over packed look. It comes in two colors; Black or Lumen, I choose the black because that’s how I roll. It also comes with a removable zip pouch which has a clear window to locate items and a rubberized holder for a GoPro. This bag can truly do it all.
The “incase Sling Bag” sells at their website https://www.goincase.com/shop/bags/incase-sling-pack-for-gopro/blacklumen/ for $149.95 USD and free shipping to anywhere in the US. Full disclosure I found it for less elsewhere but honestly, its still a good deal even at $149.95.
